Knowing the power of Brainwave Entrainment, you are left with two choices:

Create your own Brainwave Entrainment sounds.

Take advantage of professionally crafted and tested Brainwave Entrainment Sound Products.

If you have an aptitude for sound editting and creation, you can, with the help of the right sound editting software, make your own tailor-made brainwave entrainment sound files. The basic technology is presented in several articles within this site. There are even a few posts which lay out the step by step procedures for creating your own brainwave entrainment sound files.

If you prefer not to exert the required effort and experimentation to create self-made brainwave entrainment files however, there are a lot of products available in the market, one of which is the SelfHelp NLP product series. SelfHelp NLP has been in the brainwave entrainment field for quite a time and had continually improved their products based on feedback from customers as well as from their never-ending experimentations in their laboratory.

SelfHelp NLP offers the ‘Change Your Mind Change Your Life’ MP3 Downloads. Its main author, Paul Holzberger, has this to say about the products that he personally hand-crafted:

“All of our Change Your Mind Change Your Life® brainwave entrainment sessions are unique and designed by us. We personally test out every single session we create to ensure quality and that the benefits they are designed to bring really works well. My team and I personally use a number of our sessions on a daily basis and we really enjoy them! We have designed these sessions to help people and we want everyone to enjoy the benefits that they can bring. We receive a lot of positive feedback from people who are just amazed at how great and easy using our MP3 downloads are.”

“The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it” Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
“Change your thoughts and you change your world” Norman Vincent Peale

This impressive range of Change Your Mind Change Your Life® self help series, work by creating rhythms that take the brain through various levels to produce the perfect desired effect. To ensure the validity of the sessions, several people, both laymen and professionals, have spent time testing and re-testing these sessions. Both brainwave entrainment technology and NLP (e.g. the applicatin of audible suggestions), are most of the time merged into one, in order to stimulate the brain and thus focusing the mind and body to help with the desired effect. The amazing positive effects enjoyed by those who have taken part in the perfection of SelfHelp NLP products can also be yours.

The combination of binaural and isochronic tones in one sound file maximizes brainwave entrainment. The production of this sound file however is complicated thus products of this kind is so few you have to search for it specifically.

Brainwave entrainment is the key for the human brain evolution to move forward again. It has been said by researchers and other experts in this field of study that the regular use of this technology as a meditative tool leads to numerous benefits to the human mind and body, one of which being the increase of brain capacity from its present stagnant position at 10% to much, much higher levels. And the technology has just received another boost when it was discovered that a binaural-isochronic combination maximizes brainwave entrainment. Heretofore, a sound file was either created using binaural tones alone or isochronic beats alone.

The Binaural Tone in Binaural-Isochronic

This tone is a stereo sound consisting of a tone in one channel (left speaker) and another tone slightly above or below the former tone’s frequency in the other channel (right speaker). When listened to with headphones, the clash of these two tones creates a third tone or beat which is heard inside the head and this is what is called the binaural tone or beat.

The Isochronic Tone in Binaural-Isochronic

This is a mono representation of the binaural tone. The sounds in each channel are one and the same and the beats are obvious as opposed to that of the binaural tone which is only perceived by the brain through its interpretation of the mesh of two separate tones.

A brainwave entrainment file, usually ranging in length from 20 minutes to an hour, brings about the synchronization of the brain waves in the two hemispheres. This synchronization is like putting a big glass lens before the sun’s rays and focussing the light into a laser like point of energy. A regular practice of brainwave synchronization will eventually lead to a mind that has more focus, more utilization of more brain cells, quicker uptake and processing. Definitely a big leap in brain evolution. And the effects on the body parallels those of people who enjoy peace of mind at all times. Now, this is brought about by the mere use of either one of the two aforementioned types of tones alone. What do you think will happen with a binaural-isochronic combination?

A binaural-isochronic combination creates an assault on both sides in which the brain has no alternative but to give in to the assailant’s intent. This combination thus effects a faster and maximum brainwave entrainment. Technology has now brought the benefits of meditation to all types of people; benefits which heretofore were enjoyed only by those who have the time and resolve to sit for hours, sometimes in utterly uncomfortable postures and positions. Now, man’s brain evolution can move forward in a massive scale. The binaural-isochronic combination in brainwave entrainment is the royal way.

The brain evolution is upon us. With brainwave entrainment, looks like our brains have already been fully mapped and considerably understood by experts in the field.

Among the thousands of brainwave entrainment products in the market today, there’s one that seems to belong to a class of its own. First, it’s got this new and strange sounding technology term: 3P D.E.A.P. It means “3-Point Dynamic Entrainment Audio Process“. The Brain Evolution utilizes and mixes binaural beats, isochronic tones, and ‘time stretching’ techniques to produce their unique sound file designed to hasten and maximize entrainment.

Looks like they had the human mind mapped as this Brain Evolution product includes 6 CDs containing 30-minute-session sound files and each CD is supposed to be used according to some set schedule. The CDs are sold as a set, so one has to shell out a considerable amount. But I bet you will get your money’s worth. Why?

I was sent a 15-minute demo of the Brain Evolution. Having dabbled in this field for some time, I thought I knew what I’m gonna hear and feel. But instead of the boring drone of binaural beats and isochronic tones, I heard the pleasing sound of flowing stream water and what appears to be a water fall from a distance.

Enhanced Brain Capacity

So I won’t have to repeat myself, please read on here about what happened in the next 15 minutes. Otherwise, you can also visit the Brain Evolution site to see what this new product’s technology has to offer and why it stands out from the rest.

Or, if you don’t want to do more reading, you can just download a 15-minute free demo to get a foretaste of what’s in store for you.

In the previous articles, we have created brainwave entrainment files using C00L Edit. This time, we’ll learn How to Create Binaural Brainwave Entrainment Files with BWGen. Although we can create isochronic beats with BWGen, it is more famous for its use in creating binaural tones or beats. To refresh yourself on the concept of binaural tones, please check back to this site’s introductory articles.

REQUIREMENTS:

Equipment:

Computer and soundcard.

Suitable Headphones.

Software:

BWGen

There are other software out there that can do the same thing as BWGen (e.g. sBaGen).

Using BWGen (binaural tones):

BWGen comes with built in presets for a wide range of uses. Usually, as a beginner, these are enough for your purposes. However, as your knowledge of brainwave entrainment widens, you eventually would want to experiment with other frequencies and combinations of frequencies which may not be covered yet among the built in presets.

For learning purposes, let us try to replicate how the BUILTIN: Meditation 1(basic) preset was made. This happens to be the simplest preset among the built ins. So, with BWGen open, let’s proceed.

In the menu bar, click Presets > New Preset. Or, you can just key in CTRL-N.

The Preset Options dialog box appears. In the ‘Name’ textbox, type ‘mypreset_7hZ’ or something more descriptive.

Description: In this textbox, type the details of your preset and what it is meant to accomplish. This is optional of course.

Background: This adds color to your preset. Choose from among the selection your prefered background sound. Again, this is optional.

Segments: A 10 minute segment is added by default for you. You may edit this in the right side of the Segments box.

ID: Single character identifier for this particular segment. The next segment should thus be named B. So, leave the default A be.

Length: The length of the preset in minutes. You change this one as you wish.

Repeat: Putting a value of 2 tells BWGen to repeat this segment twice before proceeding to the next segment, if any.

Voices: In a segment, you may have one or more binaural tone sets. for this example, let’s just use 1 binaural tone set. I say set because to produce a binaural tone of 7 hZ, you actually have 2 different tones differing by 7hZ.

Continue playing after the end of all segments. Checking this means your preset will play forever even after the last segment was played. So, uncheck this so that BWGen will stop playing at the end of your preset.

Now, let’s proceed to the next tab. At the top of the current dialog box, click on the ‘Sound’ tab.

Binaural Beat Frequency: Notice a line with boxes along its length. One on each end and one in the middle. Right click on the first one and choose Edit. The Sweep Parameters dialog box appears.

Binaural Beat Frequency: Type 7 on both text boxes, or simply check the Constant checkbox. This means we want a constant binaural during the whole segment.

Leave the other parameters as they are for now. Click OK.

Right click on the rightmost box and do the same procedures you did as the first.

If there is a box at the middle of the line, right click on it and choose Delete.

For now, leave the other parameters as they are.

Go back to the ‘General’ tab. Click on the ‘Test Preset (Play)’ button. This is what your preset will sound like.

Click OK.

You have just created your first BWGen preset.

Listen to a 1-minute sample of a binaural tone:

Isochronic beats for isochronic entrainment of brainwaves are considered to entrain the mind better than binaural tones. Whether this is a fact or an individual thing, there's only one way to find out. Here's something for you to do if you ever consider trying out your hand in making your own isochronic file.

The first 2 articles (How to Create Brainwave Entrainment Files Using CoolEdit, How to Create Brainwave Entrainment Files Using CoolEdit’s Synchronizer) dealt with creating brainwave entrainment files using ‘binaural tones’ and cool edit’s ‘brainwave synchronizer’, respectively. Today, you learn how to create isochronic entrainment files with cooledit.

REQUIREMENTS:

Equipment:

Computer, with a soundcard.

Speakers connected to the computer.

Software:

CoolEdit (or Audition)

If you don’t have CoolEdit, you may use some other software that has the features offered by CoolEdit. The steps may be different. Improvise.

Isochronic Beats (Isochronic Entrainment)

The beats in ‘isochronic’ and ‘binaural’ methods are essentially the same, except for the following:

With isochronic beats, the brain doesn’t have to exert extra effort of interpreting the difference between 2 tones as with binaural tones (thus isochronic entrainment is better).

While binaural tones require stereo, isochronic tones don’t.

While binaural tones require the use of headphones/earphones, isochronic tones don’t, although headphones are still recommended.

If you’ve heard of the whoosh-whoosh of an old long-bladed ceiling fan, or any repetitive beats at regular time intervals for that matter, then you have basically exposed yourself to isochronic tones before and most probably have experienced isochronic entrainment.

Using C00L EDIT (isochronic beats for isochronic entrainment):

With Cool Edit open, click File, then New, or just press Ctrl-N in the keyboard.

Select 44100 sample rate in the New Waveform dialog box. Then click OK.

We’re gonna use pink noise for our beat, so in the menu bar click ‘Generate’ > ‘Noise…’

Choose ‘Pink’ in the Color box, and type 0.125 in the Duration text box. Click Ok.

For this example, we use 0.125 (1/8 = 0.125) seconds because we want to produce an 8 hertz beat.

On the window of the resulting display, click approximately in the middle, hold and drag to the end in order to select half of the displayed wave.

Then in the menu bar, click ‘Effects’ > ‘Silence’. Resulting wave in the display window should be more or less like this:

(image)

Try out the file by pressing the ‘Play Looped’ button. You may make adjustments to make the sound more ear-friendly, e.g. fading in/out the edges, normalizing, lowering amplitude amplification, etc.

Switch to Edit View. Insert the file into a track.

Right click on the file in the track and select ‘Loop Duplicate…’ 128 times.

From the menu, click ‘Edit’ > ‘Mix down to file’ > ‘All waves’.

Clear the track, then insert the new ‘mixdown’ file, and ‘Loop duplicate…’ again. Repeat this process until you have a file with a total length of at least 20 minutes.

There, you have just created your first isochronic entrainment file.

A not so well-known method of brainwave synchronization, especially since the time binaural tones gained wide acceptance, then isochronic beats thereafter, this type is as entraining as binaurals/isochronics.

The first part of this series focused on how to make a brainwave entrainment file with binaural tones using Cool Edit. In this article, let us now learn how to create brainwave entrainment files using cooledit’s synchronizer feature.

REQUIREMENTS:

Equipment:

Computer, with a soundcard.

Speakers (external speakers or headphones) connected to the computer.

Software:

CoolEdit (now Audition)

There are other software related to the above-cited ones, like SoundForge, etc. You can use them if you have them instead of the one listed above.

Using C00L EDIT (brainwave synchronizer):

For more information regarding the ‘brainwave synchronizer’ feature of Cool Edit, you may refer to CE’s help files on the subject.

The following are the basic steps necessary to make a brainwave entrainment file with Cool Edit’s brainwave synchronizer.

Find a sound file that you find pleasing to listen to. Classical music will do but be aware that the output after the ‘brainwave synchronizer’ process will not sound as good as before. The sound file will become sort of choppy or wavy. One of the sound files I used in one of my experiments was one where there was a mixture of wailing of whales, sea waves, water trickling every now and then, some soft flute in the background, and other complimentary sounds. Make sure that the whole sound file has no silent portions within, and that the soundfile has more or less the same volume throughout. And since a brainwave entrainment file should be at least 15 to 20 minutes long, you need to process your file so that it is 15 to 20 minutes long too.

With Cool Edit open, Click on File > Open… and browse to your chosen file.

Select the whole file by double-clicking on the middle horizontal line on the wave display window.

Click on Effects menu > Special > Brainwave Synchronizer…

The resulting dialog box presents you with two (2) main settings you can tweak with – Low Settings and High Settings. If, say, you want your 20-minute file to ramp from 14 hz down to 7.83hZ, then back up to 15hZ, you would thus set the Frequency at 7.83 in the ‘Low Settings’ box, and 15hZ in the ‘High Settings’ box. (see illustration below)

For this example, just leave all the other settings at their default values. You may experiment later by adjusting these settings and checking how it fares with you.

You have just created a 20-minute brainwave entrainment file using Cool Edit’s ‘brainwave synchronizer’.

As with most things, some people find this type of file more entraining while some say the binaural type works best for them.

Creating brainwave entrainment files is a breeze given the proper tools and software. Here you will learn how to create binaural beats using the amazing CoolEdit software.

Having learned the basics of brainwave entrainment/synchronization and the different frequency correspondences, you, being in a rare creative mood right now, may decide to experiment and try to see if you can make your own brainwave entrainment files.

REQUIREMENTS:

Equipment:

Computer (not the ones you bought way back in 1997!), with a soundcard.

Headphones connected to the computer.

Software: (any one of the following)

CoolEdit (now called Audition)

BWGen

There are other software related to the above-cited ones, like SoundForge, etc. You can use them if you have them in stead of any of the above.

Using C00L EDIT (binaural tones):

With Cool Edit open, click File, then New, or just press Ctrl-N in the keyboard.

Select 44100 sample rate in the New Waveform dialog box. Then click OK.

For this example, let us create a constant binaural tone of 10 hertz using 150 hertz on the left and 160 hertz on the right channel. So, now the right window is partitioned into 2 blocks, one upper and the other below it. Bring your cursor to the uppermost line in the upper block. A tooltip that says ‘L’ should appear right next to your cursor, meaning, this block is for the left channel. Click on this line. You’ll know if you did this right by observing 2 things: first, the green horizontal line in the center of the lower block has turned grey; second, only the upper block has a vertical yellow dotted line below its yellow arrow on the leftmost side of the block. Note that the colors I mentioned here may be different with yours if you have changed the default colors in the Settings.

From the menu bar, click Generate, then choose Tones.

On the Generate Tones dialog box, make sure that the ‘Lock to these settings only’ is checked. Type 150 in the Base Frequency box. The other textboxes below this should have 0, 0 and 1 respectively. On the bottom portion, there is a ‘General’ box which contains the ‘Flavor’ dropdown box. Choose Sine. Then enter 6 in the duration (seconds). Then, click OK. You have just generated a tone of 150 hertz for the left channel only.(Scroll down to see illustration below)

Now, it’s time to work on the right channel. Bring your cursor to the lower block’s lowermost line that outputs the letter ‘R’ tooltip. Click. Then, to make sure that your right channel tone starts at the very beginning, click on the button that has the symbol ‘|<’ on it. Or you can just press Ctrl-Alt-Home instead. Again, you’re doing ok if you see a yellow vertical line at the beginning of the lower block only., and the upper block is greyed out.

Like you did for the left channel, Click Generate, then choose Tones.

Change the 150 you entered earlier into 160. Click OK.

Check out what you’ve just done by clicking on the centermost horizontal line that divides the two channels to enable both channels. Then press the ‘Play Looped’ button (the one with the infinity symbol).

The file you’ve just created is a 6-second binaural tones file. If you want to make it into a full 30-minute file, it will just be a simple matter of inserting it into Multitrack View and then ‘Loop Duplicate’-ing it to the proper number of times, mixing it down and saving it as, say, ‘10hz binaural.wav’ or ‘10hz binaural.mp3.

Listen to a 1-minute sample of a binaural tone:

These are basically how, most, if not all, brainwave entrainment products in the market are created. The difference is that those in the market are created professionally by professional people who have spent real time and effort in experiments to make the final output as perfect and effective as possible. They also may have invested in special and sophisticated equipment as well as human resources in the production of their products, not to mention special sophisticated software. With regard to techniques and data, ours are very basic while they may have data and technology that they naturally will not divulge to the public as it is considered their ‘trade secret’.

The following table of brainwave frequencies is a collection of data coming from several sources, most of which are listed below. This is laid out here for informational purposes only. This brainwave frequencies table is the result of outputs from experiments conducted by researchers from all over the world. Should you have some definitive, reproducible findings regarding the effects of some particular frequency or frequencies, whether it be in the nature of binaural, isochronic, rife, or whatever, please don’t hesitate to make a report about it so that it could be tested and confirmed by others who share the same interest and thus be added in the table of brainwave frequencies.

Personal experience using brainwave entrainment technology. Binaural tones, isochronic beats, they are effective in altering mind states.

Like most things that strike my fancy, I rush to it, go crazy over it, and then when the initial excitement fades away, I leave it and search for the next interesting thing. My personal experience with brainwave entrainment is no exception to this ‘fancy’ rule. However, this technology has become some sort of mild obsession of mine as I often go back to it every now and then and embrace it like some dear friend whenever we come together.

A few years back, I stumbled upon a site called the Brainwave Generator. I do meditation exercises on and off, so when I read that brainwave entrainment enhances and kind of makes one’s meditation experience easier, I immediately plunged into it and studied it thoroughly. The bwgen site introduced me to all this. I did a lot of personal experimentation and created lots of bwgen presets for my own use. I even submitted a couple of presets to the bwgen site library. The ‘Deep Bubble’ and the ‘Deep Bubble 1‘ presets. It garnered a few appreciative comments from some experienced users of brainwave entrainment. There was even one professional therapist who emailed me about how he liked my preset and how he used it on his clients, and how each client related their personal experience with entrainment using the file I made. He also asked me to create more presets.

As I did not fully trust the works of other contributors, I only used presets and sound files I created myself. With the ones I made, I usually feel first the initial physical relaxation. At about the 6th minute, i get the swaying sensations, like I’m on a hammock and being gently swayed to and fro. At other times, I feel like I can initiate the swaying myself just by imagining it. Then it comes. After the swaying comes the flutter of images. The same ones I always see when I’m lying in bed and about to enter the sleep phase. I think this is what they call the hypnagogic phase. Then finally I either fall into some very calm, silent, peaceful state, regardless of the sounds and activity outside, or fall peacefully asleep. Ok, it helps if it’s silent or hushed outside.

I did all this with the goal of achieving what they term ‘astral projection’. Sadly, I have never achieved such, at least not consciously. One other very definite observation I’ve noticed about this exercise is that, if I do brainwave entrainment sessions early or at anytime in the evening, I afterwards feel like I’ve taken a considerable dose of caffeine as I can not sleep at my usual sleeping schedule for that night. That’s why nowadays, I make sure I do it either in the mornings, noontime or early afternoon.

Lastly, I’d like to stress the quality of my sleep in the evenings when I do the session during the day. Peaceful, restful. And my dreams are clearer and more easily recalled. There are probably a lot of things that happened to me with the sessions. Most of them probably are too subtle for me to take notice. I often envy others who report about really cool experiences. Probably, if I can effectively suspend the constant rationalization of my objective mind during the sessions, I’d have better luck.

Rhythmic drumming heals. It directly affects the states of mind of both the listener as well as the drummer and has bearing also on the particular frequency of beats used.

You already know what specific frequencies can do to us, don’t you? Well, at least we know that a lot of them are useful for particular purposes. That is, slow beats from around 10 beats per second down to 7 is good for relaxation and meditation purposes, while beats above 13 beats per second makes us alert and on our feet. Healing rhythmic drumming is the quickest way to access these frequencies. You don’t need fancy hardware or even electricity to produce the beats. You just drum.

A researcher, Melinda Maxfield, who studied the Shamans discovered that the rhythmic drumming that the shaman’s assistants do is actually the vehicle that transports the Shaman into the right state of consciousness for his Shamanic rituals. Not only that, the drumming is done at a specific rhythm of four-and-a-half beats per second. Now, from our frequency table, we know that this rhythm is in the theta region and is related to states conducive to fantasy, imagery, creativity, planning, dreaming, switching thoughts, Zen meditation, extra sensory perception, cell regeneration (thus healing). And healing rhythmic drumming translates to isochronic beats (not binaural).

Ok. You’ve also probably heard about that already. Listening to rhythmic beats always has an effect on the listener. But what about the drummer?!

The drummer uses both hands to create the desired rhythm. If you recall that the left brain controls the right arm and the right brain controls the left arm, you will see how a drummer is actually exercising towards a more balanced coordination of his right and left brain hemispheres. For left hemisphere dominant people, drumming tends to strengthen the less dominant right brain, thus enhancing right-brain functions like intuition and creativity. Some researchers even say that aside from honing their motor skills, children who had music and rhythm integrated in their early years learn to read and write sooner than those who didn’t have such.

Rhythmic drumming seems to have found a lot of enthusiasts from circles that you wouldn’t think to connect with drums. In studying substance abuse victims, Michael Winkelman from The Department of Anthropology, Arizona State University, reports: rhythmic “drumming enhances recovery through inducing relaxation and enhancing theta-wave production and brain-wave synchronization. Drumming produces pleasurable experiences, enhanced awareness of preconscious dynamics, release of emotional trauma and reintegration of self.”

Stroke patients showed immediate improvements in motor coordination with the proper use of rhythm exercises. Thus says Professor Michael Thaut of the Royal Institution of Great Britain, London: “Through the use of rhythm, we can stimulate the improvement of neurological processing and cortical reorganization in the injured brain. This technique is proving to be more effective than conventional physiotherapy.”

More and more reports about the magic of rhythm and drumming are sprouting up. Some attribute the relaxation brought about by drumming to have improved the lives of patients having Alzheimer’s disease and autism.

There is even a report from a Dr Barry Bittman, that “statistically significant increases in the activity of cellular immune components responsible for seeking out and destroying cancer cells and viruses were noted in normal subjects who drummed.”

So, go now and get a drum. If not, you could always use the palm of your hands to tap on your dining table the way those Jamaican drummers tap their bongos. Just don’t do it while your mom and dad are still eating.
